| The facility wasn't impressive on first glance but the sheer size of it was grand and imposing. The paint layering the exterior was cracked and starting to peel, thin strips of faded paint barely hanging onto the wall or just beginning to peel off the the bricks beneath the paint. The seperate wings flanking the sides of the main building were in the same condition, though due to their smaller size they weren't as grand as the main facility in the center. The Slovenian girl grimaced in wry amusement as she stared at the facility. She had been transferred here to fill in an empty spot and because of it's prominent position in the feild but the aesthetics clearly said something else. The mental instituion seemed more like a facility where the "scum" of society were only meant to be locked away, and perhaps tortured, rather than getting the help needed for their afflictions. The brunette sighed as she walked up the steps and reached the door. She'd find out just what was going on inside once she opened that door. Short, I know, but it's the best I could come up with in 5 minutes. And I know, crappy title too, but I couldn't leave it as just HetAsylum or it wouldn't post the topic -.- ~Characters~ Orderlies: Kyoka, Al, Matt, Cvetka Psychologists: Patients: Kiki (sex crazed, homocidal tendencies), Kaito (wrongly submitted), Al (homocidal tendencies, hallucinations, warped views), Alice (submitted for belief in magic), Chang (violent tendencies, opium abuse, habit of mixing of chemicals), Dražen (positive category schizophrenia) | |

When's this set? The 1900s? Apart from electroshock therapy and lobotomies, do you know what other sorts of things they did?
I'm just wondering what sorts of things they would do to Alice... I can look it up, I was just wondering where if you had decided where to draw the line and stuff.

| Alfred had been asked to wait on the new girl and he paced up and down in front of the door, impatient to get back to helping the patients. At one point, he thought he heard a car and had thrown open the door in his excitement. It had only been a postman. When he suddenly heard the door opening, he had been surprised and happily bounded forward to wrench it open for her. "Hi!" he almost bellowed at the girl before him. "Nice to meet ya- Ah! Welcome to HetAsylum. The 'Het' is short for 'Hetalia' or something. The founder's name, y'know? We call it 'Wayward', though, cause all the 'wayward' people come here. Got it?" He grinned and held out his hand for her to shake. - OOC:
I was looking at the description of the place and it seems really run down. But does that mean it's in modern times - an AU where it's still legal for this stuff? Cause I don't think they painted buildings in the 1900s. So I'm confused on the date... O.o (I'm just making things difficult, sorry.)

| Matt was on his break. Well, to be perfectly honest, he was supposed to be working but he took a lot of breaks. He was currently on one and was sitting in the building's staff room. His feet were on a table, his orderly uniform unbuttoned to give him more freedom of movement. He had a mug of awful coffee in his hands and he was considering throwing the whole thing in the nearby bin.
In the distance, he thought he heard Alfred loudly greeting someone. He gave a sigh - more people for him to have to talk to. |

No, it's alright. And yes, it is a bit run down, from the outside at least, but the inside isn't so bad and is habitable. It does take place in the 1900s and paint actually was used even in those times, just different types of paint, such as butter milk paint which was typically white, and color was rarely used seeing as how adding color was expensive. It's been said depending on what afflictions you had or how bad it was, they either dunked you in ice baths of boiling baths. In America they induced vomiting or drained "bad blood" to get rid of the "crisis". I imagine this taking place in Europe though, so I don't think we'll need that. In the 19th century Europeans believed in moral management, where they created a more domestic feel for the patients with beds, pictures, and decorations instead of shackles, chains and cement cells. Treatment also took a benign approach. Phrenology was introduced, studying the shape of the brain to explain illnesses and render diagnosis. Animal magnetism was another popular practice, concentrating on the benefits of hypnosis and relaxation. Problems surfaced, however, with patients becoming unruly due to lack of restraints, and concern arose with how patients were to occupy their time. To combat these concerns, work programs and recreational activities were devised for patients in asylums, significantly moving to bridge the gap between society and the hospital. They also introduced Malarial therapy followed by barbiturate therapy to induce deep sleep therapy. There were different types of shock treatments aimed at different diseases, but electro coclusive shock therapy, or ECT, was used as a last resort

| Kyoka yawned and slowly rubbed her eyes as she poured herself a cup of tea, adding one spoonful of sugar after the other. Her emerald eyes looked around at the white walls and the floors. Bringing the cup to her lips, she took a sip before pausing, hearing someone shout out something down the patient hallway. She still wasn't quite used to this place and the screams were enough to make her heart break and send shivers down her spine. | |

| Sitting on her bed, the young woman began to grow impatient and walked over to her door. "Give me some food you baka!" She shouted, kicking a few times before stomping back over and sitting down in the corner, her back against the wall. Kiki was held back by the straightjacket that wrapped around her. With an annoyed and angered expression, her eyes were fixated on the door. Her barefoot tapping on the floor before she cursed under her breath. | |

| Cvetka jumped slightly as the American wrenched the door open for her and was greeted by his boisterous voice. She forced herself to smile and shook his hand, not wanting to be rude to her new colleague. "Thank you, I'm glad to be here," she murmured, looking around at the inside of the building. It wasn't as bad as she had expected. The inside gave off a domestic feel and was kept in good condition, but this was just the office. Though she assumed the rest of the building and it's wings were kept in the same way, she wondered how the "wayward" people were treated compared to the insitution she used to work in. | |

| The dark-skinned American was absolutely bored. He heard a female yelling from a nearby cell. Al simply snickered, and the notion crossed him of answering her angry cries. Informing her it was useless to scream, it would simply waste your oxygen. None of the dumbass orderlies her listened, and the psychologists obviously did not have your best interests at heart. No one did anymore.
"Bitch, it's time you give up hope," he called from the other room. "No one's comin' ta' get you, dumbass. They ain't afraid if you when you're all tied up. They can feed whenever the hell they want."
Of course, when they were free, it was a totally different matter. If Al had any freedom of movement in his arms and the right opportunity, he wouldn't hesitate to escape from the god-awful place known as "HetAsylum."

Sorry if I confused you with the info I provided but there aren't cells ^^; What I actually was trying to get across was that during the 1900s the Europeans introduced a new way of treating mentally ill patients and it involved not having cement cells, shackles, etc. for the patients. However, the way the orderlies and psychologists treat the patients is up to you. I imagine that there were some who still treated the patients badly since theysome believed that the Devil possessed them or they just didn't think the patients would ever get better. And I didn't see anything about keeping the patients locked up all the time, perhaps they let them at least wander around within a designated area doing something productive if they were alright enough, so anyone who has a character who isn't in a straight jacket could probably do that.

| Alice could hear the shouting from her room and sighed. Really now, she didn't belong in here. Magic was real and she knew this. She could use it too, if need be. However, they treated her pretty well in here - she had the feeling they weren't sure what was wrong with her.
Ignoring them, she picked up her cup of tea and took a sip. She wondered when the psychologist would turn up again today. She just hoped that stupid orderly, Alfred, wouldn't appear. |

| Alfred grinned. "C'mon, c'mon! Let's go meet people!" He grabbed the girl's hand and pulled her in and off to the staff room. He thought that he would probably find a lot of people in there at the moment. There was that Matt guy, too - he was almost always there.
He violently pushed open the door and it banged against the door. "Hey, people! Look! New girl!" He lifted the girl's hand high and grinned. "I've to take her on a tour - say hi!" He continued to grin as he looked round at everyone. |

| Matt glanced up before clicking his tongue. He didn't want to have to go through the introductions. However, he knew that there was no way he'd be able to get out of the room without Alfred catching him.
"Hello," he said, shortly. "I'm Matt." He busied himself with drinking the awful coffee, looking elsewhere to deter any more communication. |

I was thinking Kiki was in like a padded room or something. But seriously, how I see the rooms would be like, well, rooms. Bed. Bathroom. And a door with a window. But since she's kind of...violent, I think they would keep the more violent ones in their rooms and straightjackets and such. :\ I know they used to let some of them outside in the yard in the old days. With guards and such. But that was when they were like zombies on heavily on their meds. owo;

Oh, and do you wanna make the psycologist an NPC seeing as how we have no one who asked to be a psycologists? o-o
Cvetka let out a small whine of irritation as Alfred began to drag her around like a rag doll, gripping her hand as tightly as a mother holding a curious child's hand would. She stood with the heels of her feet slightly off the ground as the American held her hand higher than someone of her stature could actually stretch it. "Hello," she replied somewhat stiffly, just as eager to end the communication between them. Her eyes wandered around the room, taking noticed of the dark haired woman in the room as well. "I'm Cvetka."

| Dražen lay back on his bed, staring up at the monochromatic walls and ceiling blankly due to the drugs. It was strong enough to calm down some of his odd behaviors that schizophrenia brought along, such as the change from his child-like silliness to the easily ignited agitation an adult would experience at times; strong enough to make him tolerable enough for the faculty that worked here. His emerald hues slowly slid over to the door at the other end of the room as he heard the rowdy voice of the American orderly and the scream coming from another room in the patient hall. Dražen didn't complain though as the drug like effects still had a hold of him, giving him a euphoric high that helped him ignore the unpleasant things. | |

| Alfred grinned around the quiet room. When no-one else said anything, he turned to Cvetka. "Where would you like to see next? Or d'ya wanna meet the patients?" He grinned down at the girl, not realising he was still holding onto her hand. |

| Cvetka looked around once more. It didn't seem like there was much t his place other than the main office, the rooms for the patients, and the staff room. "I guess we could go meet the patients," she decided. It may help her to get acquainted with them and et to know a bit about them. | |

| "Cool! Let's go!" He pulled Cvetka out of the room and rushed down the hall at such a speed that Cvetka may not have been able to keep up. Alfred finally stopped in front of a door with a name on the wall beside it. It said 'Dražen Krleža'. "Ready?" asked Alfred before knocking on the door, still smiling happily.
Then, without waiting for an answer, Alfred grabbed the doorknob and pushed it open, going in without announcing himself. "Yo, Drazen! How's it going?" |
